The Society holds five meetings each year at Keen House in Calshot St, just off Pentonville Road, close to Kings Cross. These are on a Friday evening or, in a change from previous practice, Wednesday afternoons (previously Friday). We normally invite a speaker and the meetings are informal and in a sociable environment. We welcome guests.

Meetings begin promptly at the times advertised but Keen House is open at least 30 mins before during which teas, coffees, chocolate etc are available.



CAMDEN GOODS STATION - Illustrated presentation by Peter Darley, a leading light in the Camden History Society and Camden Heritage Trust, who has also written a book on the subject of his presentation.

HISTORY OF NORTH LONDON RAILWAY IN MINIATURE - Illustrated presentation by our own Jim Connor.

This meeting will be preceded by the Annual General Meeting.

RAILWAY ARCHAEOLOGY AND RENAISSANCE AT KINGS CROSS - Illustrated presentation by Rebecca Haslam who works for ‘Pre Construct Archaeology’ to discuss her work in respect of Kings Cross goods yard where in addition to the establishment of railway history through archaeology there has been the restoration of the former GNR goods station.


LONDON OVERGROUND PRESENT AND FUTURE - An illustrated presentation by Sam Russell of London Overground part of which is effectively the NLR of today.


CROSS RAIL – MOVING LONDON FORWARD - An illustrated presentation by Crossrail’s Patrick Griffin. By the time of this event the amazing rail link will have reached a critical stage.


WEDNESDAY 14 JUNE - Walk about at KINGS CROSS conducted by Rebecca Haslam. Details to follow.

How to get there:

Keen House is situated on the right hand side of Calshot Street just past the public house as you enter from Pentonville Road. If the door is locked, please ring lower door bell.

Tea and coffee facilities are available shortly before the meeting.

By rail:

Keen House is a few minutes walk from Kings Cross and St Pancras stations, served by National Rail Services and Victoria, Northern, Hammersmith and City, Circle and Metropolitan Lines. Please note that the Thameslink station in Pentonville Road will be closed from December 2008, although the connecting subway connection to Kings Cross is expected to be retained.

By bus:

Bus numbers 30, 73, 205, 214 and 476 serve Pentonville Road and stop nearby at bus stop PG eastbound or PM westbound.

By car:

Calshot Street is outside the London Congestion Charging Zone but please note that most roads south of Pentonville Road are inside the Zone, although the current operating hours (as at November 2012) cease at 6.00pm.


The streets around Calshot Street, both north and south of Pentonville Road (but note Congestion Charging times above) are in Islington’s Controlled Parking Zones B and A respectively. The parking restriction periods for these zones as at November 2012 are:

Mon-Fri 8.30am to 6.30pm / Sat 8.30am to 1.30pm.
